First computer desk delivered
Tom and Barbara R came in their pickup truck this morning to pick up Dave and the desk to deliver it to ERdM.

We understand that the future of Costa Rica is in the elementary school age children. In order to compete in the 21st century, they need to be bilingual and master the use of computers. Because elementary schools need assistance meeting these goals, we are doing what we can to help. We don’t have a lot of money but we do have a lot of ‘gringo’ and ‘tico’ friends and know how to ‘beat the bushes’ for desperately needed supplies and equipment. This is the Adopting Escuelas story!
Escuela (eh-SKWEH-lah) is the Spanish word for school.

THINGS TO THINK OF . . .
Sending donations to CR:
1. - sending to a mail forwarding address will cost the recipient and may cost more than the item is worth
2. - sending with household items via container may cost the sender customs charges
3. - sending from outside CR through the mail or courier costs the sender depending on weight of the package and the mode of shipment (how long it will take).The recipient pays customs what they (customs) decide to charge and may cost more than the item is worth..
Carrying donations to CR:
Consumables can be placed in your suitcase in amongst other items or pack a backpack full to give away in its entirety.

Most consumables and non-consumables are available in CR, but some of the non-consumables are hard to find in English. A list of consumables and non-consumables are available upon request.

About the Founders of Adopting Escuelas
Like many other ‘gringos’ we have our years of experience and are both native English speakers. Dave has been working with computers for over 30 years and spent 35 years in the government/Industrial electronics field doing everything from technical writing to logistics, project management, system installation, field engineering and technical training. As a R.N., I taught different aspects of health education one-on-one and in classroom settings for a number of years. In 2007, I obtained certification to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL) and am currently investigating how to teach English to young learners (TEYL)
We were co-founders of VTE (Volunteers Teaching English) with Dave and Arden Brink. VTE was formed in early 2007 to provide University of Costa Rica students in the English teacher curriculum with the ability to converse with and be tutored by native English speakers. VTE has expanded and evolved into VFE (Volunteers Fostering Education).
It is with great sadness that I report the passing of my beloved wife, Raylene. She is deeply missed by me, her large family, dear friends and the children of the escuelas. Her work will go on as I try to assume the tasks that she performed.

* ALL proceeds go directly to support Adopting Escuelas.
* Donations can be made by using either a credit card or an E-Check (electronic check) direct from your regular checking account. Even though the donation is handled by PayPal, you do not need a PayPal account to donate. You will get a confirmation by email from PayPal after they receive your donation request. Your Credit Card information will not be kept, sold, or given to anyone else by PayPal or anyone else. It will be used ONLY for the purpose of making a donation to Adopting Escuelas.
